Nebraska football legend Greg Sharpe to miss broadcast of Illinois game

Sharpe has been a part of the Husker Radio Network broadcast team since 1997

Former Nebraska football player and current radio analyst Greg Sharpe will miss the Huskers' game against Illinois on Saturday due to a family emergency.

Sharpe announced his absence on Twitter on Thursday

Sharpe, who has been a part of the Husker Radio Network broadcast team since 1997, said he will be back in the booth as soon as possible.

"I'm so sorry to miss the Illinois game this weekend," Sharpe said. "My family is going through a tough time right now, and I need to be with them."

"I'll be back in the booth as soon as I can," he added.

Sharpe, a former All-American linebacker, played for the Huskers from 1983 to 1987.

He was a member of Nebraska's 1983 national championship team.

After his playing career, Sharpe worked as an assistant coach at Nebraska and Northern Illinois before joining the Husker Radio Network.

He is known for his passionate and knowledgeable commentary.

Sharpe's absence will be a big loss for the Husker Radio Network.

He is one of the most popular and respected analysts in the country.

The Huskers will face Illinois on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

The game will be televised on BTN.
