Cincinnati to start Indiana transfer Sorsby at QB

Bearcats' coaching staff 'really excited' about potential of former Hoosiers signal caller

Sorsby expected to make first start for Cincinnati this Saturday against Kennesaw State

CINCINNATI -- Ben Bryant is out as the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bearcats, and Indiana transfer Evan Sorsby is in.

Bearcats coach Scott Satterfield made the announcement Monday, saying that Sorsby had "earned the right" to start after a strong performance in Cincinnati's 31-24 loss to No. 19 Arkansas last Saturday.

Sorsby, a redshirt sophomore, completed 15 of 22 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns against the Razorbacks. He also ran for 40 yards on six carries.

"We're really excited about Evan's potential," Satterfield said. "He's a very talented player who has a lot of upside.

Sorsby is expected to make his first start for Cincinnati this Saturday when the Bearcats host Kennesaw State.

Bryant, a graduate transfer from Eastern Michigan, had started the first two games of the season for Cincinnati. He completed 30 of 50 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions.

Satterfield said that Bryant will remain the team's backup quarterback and that he could still start again this season.

"Ben is a great player and a great leader," Satterfield said. "He's still a part of our plans moving forward."

The Bearcats are 1-1 this season after losing to Arkansas last week. They will open their American Athletic Conference schedule next Saturday at Indiana.
